What you might have missed

  • The Volvo Ocean Race ended this weekend in The Hague, Netherlands! The tie between MAPFRE, Team Brunel and Dongfeng Race Team at the beginning of leg 11 made for an exciting race. Dongfeng Race Team won the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 in the closest finish in race history.

  • CST & CSDS members along with other Canadian sailors attend Kiel week in Germany last week (June 16-24). After a windy 4 days of racing, here is a full list of results.
  • Gathering Canadian sailors in the 2.4mR and Sonar classes, the 2018 U.S. Para Sailing Championships happened last week in Newport, RI (June 22-24). Here is a quick summary of what happened at the event:
    • Paralympians John McRoberts and Scott Lutes finished 1st in the RS Venture Connect while also winning the C. Thomas Clagett, Jr. Trophy
    • 2.4mR sailor, Delani Hulme-Lawrence won the Larry Gadsby – Most Improved Award
    • Canadian, 2.4mr sailor, Peter Wood finished 3rd overall in a 22 boat fleet.

  • Luke Ruitenberg was named Helly Hansen Sailor of the Month for his results at the Medemblik Regatta in the Netherlands. The full article can be found here.

  • Zoomer Magazine released their summer edition which highlights activities in Canada. While there is a vast of activities to do in the summer, sailing is definitely a part of that. Watch for Sail Canada’s feature in this edition, available on newsstands today!
  • It’s the last week of school for many! CANSail Programming will be back in full action across Canada starting next week!
