Who are you?
Frank Denis from Halifax,
Nova Scotia (originally from Montreal)
Executive Director with Sail Nova Scotia for the past 16.5 years since January 2002.
What do you do to contribute to Sail Canada?
Advocate for Sail Canada programs and materials to yacht and sailing schools here in NS. Hold meetings to share Sail Canada information and get the word out about what the national association is doing for sailors here in NS.
How did you get into the sailing world? How long have you been sailing?
I was a sailor when I started as ED at Sail NS. I have a degree in Sport Administration and experience with not-for-profits and the hiring committee thought that was a good match.
Do you sail often? If so, what kind of boat do you sail?
I don’t own a boat but when not assisting with planning sailing events friends will take me out for a sail.
What is a fun fact about you?
My Christmas album; Christmas With Frank has more than 2000 listens on Sound Cloud…and I can’t sing.
Where is your favourite place in Canada?
Tough question. South Shore of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton and downtown Montreal on a warm summer night.
What is one of your favourite memories from sailing, being around sailing, funny or inspirational?
Early on in this position, people would call to share their sailing stories and I wouldn’t have any idea what they were talking about. Now I understand!
What made you want to be apart of the Sail Canada organization?
It’s an amateur sport and I enjoy helping others; recreational boaters, volunteers, athletes, clubs, achieve success
If you had one piece of advice to give to the sailing community, what would it be?
